Iran‑Oman talks near completion

Iranian and Omani officials met in Muscat on August 2 and announced that they were close to finalising an agreement on a safe navigation corridor through the Strait of Hormuz.

The deal would allow commercial vessels to transit the waterway without the risk of Iranian interference, a move Tehran hopes will ease the economic pressure of U.S. sanctions.

While Oman’s foreign ministry said the talks were “constructive”, Iranian officials cautioned that any final accord would still need to be ratified by the Iranian parliament.
