Bungie Hit With Mass Layoffs

Bungie announced a sweeping round of layoffs on Thursday that had an outsized impact on the team responsible for Destiny 2, the live-service shooter that has anchored the studio for over a decade.

Staff working on the upcoming extraction shooter Marathon were also affected by the cuts.

In a message to employees, Bungie leadership acknowledged that the final chapter of Destiny 2 failed to meet commercial projections, capping a 12-year franchise with a disappointing financial result.

The layoffs are the latest in a wave of job cuts across the video game industry and come as Bungie operates under Sony's ownership.
