Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced plans to use new hydraulic fracturing technologies, or fracking, to reduce Mexico’s reliance on foreign energy amid the Iran war.
She framed the approach as a form of sustainable extraction, but communities who say they have been harmed by fracking continue to oppose the plan.
