India raises fuel prices as global energy crisis adds pressure on economy
India has raised fuel prices by 3 rupees per liter to offset losses from higher global oil prices.
On Friday, gasoline in New Delhi rose to 97.77 rupees a liter, while diesel climbed to 90.67 rupees.
India imports about 90% of its oil and has been hit hard by rising energy prices and supply disruptions linked to the U.S.-Israel war on Iran.
It became one of the last major economies to pass higher crude prices to consumers.
Authorities in the capital of New Delhi also announced fuel-saving measures, including mandatory work-from-home days for some government employees.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Indians to adopt voluntary austerity measures to conserve fuel and save foreign exchange.
