Donald Trump delivered a wide-ranging update on Iran, global oil prices, artificial intelligence, China, Venezuela, Taiwan and the US economy, while also taking aim at political rivals and former members of his administration.

Speaking about the escalating situation involving Iran, Trump insisted the country would not obtain a nuclear weapon and claimed it was “in no position” to do so.

He also discussed oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz, argued that fears of prices reaching $300 a barrel had not materialised and predicted that global oil prices could fall sharply once the crisis is resolved.

Trump also outlined discussions about giving the American public a potential financial stake in major AI companies, claiming the United States was leading China in the global AI race.

He spoke about US involvement in Venezuela’s energy industry, possible arms sales to Taiwan and plans involving Intel, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Elsewhere, the US president launched a fierce attack on former national security adviser John Bolton, criticised Republican Senator Thom Tillis and reflected on support he received from Bernie Sanders voters.

He also addressed interest rates, the Kennedy Center, the Lincoln Memorial, the White House cocaine investigation and the cost of NBA Finals tickets.
