A cross-border legal team has filed seven lawsuits against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman following the deadly school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., that killed eight people.
The claims allege the company failed to act on warnings that the shooter posed a credible threat, despite internal safety concerns.
Lawyers say the case is about accountability, telling a jury the company “can’t make a decision to put profits over the lives of little kids.”
The legal team says it will seek at least $1 billion in damages as the cases move toward jury trials expected next year.
