Vingegaard storms to a fourth Giro stage win, stretching his lead past 4 minutes
Jonas Vingegaard has extended his overall lead in the Giro d’Italia after winning the 16th stage on Tuesday.
The Danish rider soloed to victory to extend his lead to more than four minutes.
This marks his fourth mountain-top win in this year's race.
It is his first victory in the leader’s pink jersey.
Vingegaard attacked halfway up the top-category slog to the finish in Carì, in Switzerland, and no one could stay on his wheel.
He beat Felix Gall by over a minute, with Jai Hindley close behind.
Gall moves into second overall, trailing Vingegaard by four minutes, three seconds.
The race returns to Italy on Wednesday and concludes Sunday in Rome.
