Iran warns ships in Strait of Hormuz of fines, detention and confiscation

Iran warned on Sunday that some ships failing to comply with its transit regulations in the Strait of Hormuz could face penalties during subsequent passages, including fines, detention or confiscation.

The warning came in a statement issued by Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority on the US social media platform X. The authority urged companies transporting goods to the Gulf or receiving shipments from it to check the updated list of vessels that have committed violations before chartering any ship.

It added that, from the date of the statement, vessels cooperating with those already on the list would also be added to it when involved in ship-to-ship cargo transfers, transshipment or similar operations.
