Authorities say a fire in a rail yard train car near New York's Penn Station has injured five people and disrupted service for many commuters.

The fire caused train delays in New Jersey Transit and Amtrak rail service into New York and briefly suspended the Long Island Rail Road service.

New Jersey Transit posted online that the fire, now extinguished, was in an Amtrak train car in one of the Hudson River tunnels.

Amtrak has suspended its service until at least noon Friday but has not commented on the fire itself.

Fire officials report 100 firefighters responded, and two of the injured were taken to a hospital.
