‘WAR ON TWO FRONTS’ - Starmer warns Britain must prepare for escalating global conflict

Irish Mirror Irish Mirror — 12min

Sir Keir Starmer has warned that Britain is facing a “war on two fronts” as the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East place growing pressure on security, energy prices and military resources across Europe.

The UK Prime Minister described the world as more dangerous and volatile than at any point in his lifetime, pointing to Russia’s war in Ukraine, tensions involving Iran, cyberattacks and threats to critical infrastructure.

He also referenced intelligence assessments warning that Russia could attack NATO as early as 2030.

Starmer confirmed that a new defence investment plan will be published in the coming weeks, with further spending on military technology, autonomous systems and defence jobs.

The announcement comes as European governments face growing pressure to strengthen security while households continue to feel the economic impact of global conflict and rising energy costs.
