Donald Trump has reacted to the catastrophic Nepal floods after the death toll across Nepal and Tibet rose above 390, with more than 1,400 people still missing.
The US president described the destruction as “brutal” and said strong, well-built buildings were “wiped out like they were toothpicks”.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump confirmed that the United States is sending aid and has offered Nepal any assistance it needs.
He also expressed concern for dozens of Americans believed to have been inside the disaster zone, saying officials had not yet received a complete list but hoped they were safe.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has pledged £5 million towards the emergency response and offered to send British emergency personnel.
Rescue teams are searching for survivors after a massive glacier collapse sent ice, mud and rock surging through Himalayan communities near the Nepal-Tibet border.
Authorities have also warned that a newly formed lake could burst, raising fears of further deadly flooding as families around the world desperately await news of their loved ones.
