Doug Ford speaks to media amid criticism over wildfire response in northern Ontario | LIVE

Ontario Premier Doug Ford will make an announcement Friday alongside the province's Emergency Preparedness and Response Minister Jill Dunlop and Natural Resources Minister Mike Harris.

The announcement comes as wildfires continue to rage across northern Ontario and thick smoke drifts across the south of the province.

Ford has said his government will spare no expense to help those caught in the raging wildfires, which have forced thousands of people from their homes.

But his government has faced criticism for failing to properly budget for the fires.

The province budgeted $150 million for fighting wildfires in 2026, much less than the $271 million that was spent the year before.

Meanwhile, the province has requested help from Ottawa, including the military, to speed up evacuations.

Several Ontario communities— including Armstrong, Whitesand First Nation, Collins First Nation and Gakijiwanong Anishinaabe Nation (Lac La Croix First Nation) — are being evacuated as a result of the fires.
