Mass rallies have erupted across Turkiye after a court annulled the appointment of Ozgur Ozel as chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), the country’s main opposition movement.
The ruling could pave the way for former CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu to return to the top position after losing the 2023 presidential election to Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Ozel has vowed to challenge the decision, while protests continue in Istanbul and other cities amid growing political tensions and divisions inside the opposition party.
Al Jazeera’s Sinem Koseoglu reports from Istanbul.
