The sentence of two teenage boys who avoided jail for raping two girls has been referred to the Court of Appeal, the prime minister has confirmed.

The 15-year-olds raped the girls in separate attacks in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, in November 2024 and January 2025.

Footage was also recorded and shared on social media.

But the decision by a judge to give them youth rehabilitation orders rather than custodial sentences was met with anger by women's rights groups.

Rape survivor Gisele Pelicot told Sky News sexual assault was not taken seriously because the judiciary was dominated by men.
