France's government is asking prosecutors to investigate Israel's alleged mistreatment of activists from a flotilla to Gaza.

This move could potentially open a route to criminal proceedings.

France has already banned Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, from French territory for his behavior toward the activists.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said Friday that a report from French diplomats in Turkey detailed alleged abuses, including sexual violence and beatings.

The Global Sumud Flotilla was intercepted this month, and activists accused Israeli forces of mistreatment.

Israel denied these claims.
