Northwestern beats North Carolina 14-11 for its 9th women's lacrosse national championship
Freshman Gabriella McCollester scored a career-high four goals as No. 1 Northwestern defeated No. 2 North Carolina 14-11 in the NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse national championship.
McCollester stepped in after senior Lucy Munro left with an injury.
Taylor Lapointe and Aditi Foster each scored a hat trick.
Madison Taylor recorded seven points, including six assists and the final goal.
Northwestern clinched its ninth title and became the first team to win a national championship on its home field since 1984.
Northwestern coach Kelly Amonte Hiller, who coached all nine national champions, is the all-time winningest coach in the Division I national championship game.
