Residents remain on high alert as persistent rainfall and the spring thaw cause severe flooding in Gatineau.

CTV's Natalie van Rooy reports that more than 40 streets and 164 buildings could be at risk.

Residents Dianne Picknell, Veronique Trepanier, and Martin Desjardins are urgently building sandbag walls to protect homes.

Gatineau Mayor Maude Marquis-Bissonnette confirms four sandbag sites are open 24 hours a day to assist the community.
