Brazil’s government launches $2 billion anti-organized crime program
Brazil’s government has launched an anti-organized crime program, allowing $2 billion in spending on public security.
The initiative aims to combat arms trafficking, attack criminal finances, improve homicide investigations and invest in the prison system.
About 1 billion reais will be invested until December.
The program targets crime gangs like the PCC and Red Command.
President Lula discussed public security with U.S. President Donald Trump last week.
Allies say opposition governors are hesitant to use funds.
Vice President Geraldo Alckmin criticized former President Jair Bolsonaro’s security policies during the launch.
