House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) accused President Trump of trying to "steal" the November midterms ahead of his primetime address Thursday, which is expected to focus on the integrity of U.S. elections.
"In advance of Donald Trump's speech, let me also be clear about one thing: Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election," he told reporters. "Something's really wrong with this guy.
I think he actually needs to be checked out.
Why does he continue to focus on a conspiracy theory related to a 2020 presidential election that every rational person in the United States of America knows he lost?"
Rep. Jeffries said nothing the president says about elections will have "any merit," calling him the "conspirator in chief" who is "fanning the flames of conspiracy theories."
"We're committed to making sure there's a free and fair election," he said. "And we will have the largest voter-protection effort in the history of the country, because Donald Trump and Republicans know they cannot win this election fairly, and we're not going to let them steal it."
