PM admits officials 'withheld' Mandelson vetting information from senior ministers

Sir Keir Starmer has faced more than two hours of questions from MPs in the Commons over the vetting process for Peter Mandelson's appointment as the UK's ambassador to the US.

Opposition MPs accused the prime minister of breaching the ministerial code by failing to correct misleading statements, while his own backbenchers expressed despair.
