Report: US offers Iran sanctions relief in exchange for reopening Strait of Hormuz

The United States has reportedly offered Iran sanctions relief in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting attacks by Tehran-aligned groups in the region, according to a Saudi media report.

A senior source cited by Al Arabiya said Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, conveyed the US proposal to Iranian officials during talks in Tehran.

According to the report, the proposal calls for Iran to restore navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and halt attacks by allied armed groups in exchange for Washington ending its latest economic campaign and lifting sanctions against Tehran.

The reported offer comes as the United States intensifies economic pressure on Iran.
