Clashes broke out between protesters and police near Banorte Stadium in Mexico City on Thursday, 11 June, during the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup between Mexico and South Africa.
Demonstrators gathered near the stadium to protest the tournament as thousands of fans attended the opening fixture.
Police moved in to prevent protesters from approaching security zones surrounding the venue, leading to scuffles between officers and demonstrators.
