Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) said she had "nothing to announce" regarding whether she would run for president in 2028, after saying in an interview earlier Thursday that she was not planning a White House bid.
"I never thought I would run for governor," the Michigan Democrat said in an interview at the Detroit Regional Chamber's Mackinac Policy Conference. "So, I guess I should know better, to say — never say never."
Gov. Whitmer said her main priority was finishing her second term strong in the Great Lakes State.
"I don't want any distractions while I wrap up my eight years as governor," she said. "At this juncture, I've got nothing to announce.
I guess I'll just smile and say I'm going to stay focused, and leave it at that for now."
