Ecuadorian artisans struggle to preserve traditional hand-woven strainers

Artisans in Guangopolo, Ecuador, are struggling to keep the traditional craft of weaving horsehair sieves alive. 50 years ago, about 500 families made a living from the craft, selling up to 600 sieves a month.

Now they sell only about 10 each week.

Industrial growth and environmental changes have made sourcing materials difficult and expensive, and younger generations are not interested in continuing the tradition.
