Victims speak to judge in Opioid crisis sentencing

Sky News Sky News

Victims of the opioid crisis are expected to address a judge as OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma faces a federal criminal sentence.

The company agreed to fines and forfeitures of more than $8 billion back in 2020, but most of that is to be waived as part of a deal the company negotiated.

The sentencing, to be conducted entirely by Zoom, is one of the final steps for the settlement to become official and money to flow to state and local governments -- and victims.
