How a simple mix-up fueled false conspiracies about L.A. vote count

An update of votes for Los Angeles mayor, reported by media outlets, led some observers to believe there was a large batch of votes counted that included zero votes for candidate Spencer Pratt.

There was no such batch, but there was a misleading update.
