Policeman attacked with his own baton

A policeman was struck over the head with his own baton in a violent scuffle with a stop-and-search suspect.

The incident happened on Soho Road in Handsworth, Birmingham, on July 3.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We’re investigating an incident on Soho Road, Birmingham, and want to speak to Mahroy Stephenson.

‘‘During a stop and search by officers yesterday morning (Fri) one officer suffered a head injury.

‘‘He was treated at hospital and thankfully has since been discharged.

‘‘Stephenson, 30, from the Bartley Green area of Birmingham is wanted on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

‘‘He is further wanted on suspicion of an assault on 21 June.

‘‘Anyone with information can contact us on 999 quoting crime reference 20/309319/26.”
