Apology: John Steenhuisen

Last year, Daily Maverick published an article that led Minister John Steenhuisen to file a complaint with the Press Ombud.

While most of his grievances were dismissed, the Deputy Ombud determined that Daily Maverick should have offered Steenhuisen a Right of Reply regarding a specific claim linking his trade dealings with China to the dismissal of then Environment Minister Dion George.

We have apologised for not including this specific question in the list we sent out for comment.

In his statement, Steenhuisen denied any connection between his trade engagements and political decisions.
