Benin election: Two-candidate race after law sidelines opposition

Al Jazeera Al Jazeera — 2min

Benin’s presidential race has shrunk from 33 candidates in 2016 to just two after a law effectively barred most opposition parties, amid rising living costs and insecurity in the north.

The finance minister, seen as President Patrice Talon’s chosen successor, runs on stability and reform, while the opposition candidate calls for universal access to education and healthcare.

Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris reports from Cotonou.
