Without Vrabel, Patriots select 6 players on final day of NFL draft

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel has fulfilled his pledge to be away from the team’s draft room on Saturday for what he said was to begin counseling.

Before the draft, Vrabel apologized for creating distractions and said his actions fell short of his standards after photos were published recently of him with longtime NFL reporter Dianna Russini at an Arizona resort.

Vice president of football operations Eliot Wolf had the final say on picks in Vrabel’s absence.

The Patriots traded up for each of their first two picks and ended up making nine selections, including six on the final day with Vrabel absent.
