According to the Tokyo Fire Department, 48 people were taken to hospital for heatstroke by later afternoon on Tuesday, with patients ranging in age from early 20s to mid-90s.
The sweltering day in Tokyo followed a day earlier in which more than 100 people were hospitalized for heatstroke after the city recorded temperatures above 35 C (95 F)
