Toronto police are expected to provide an update on a mass shooting that left two people dead and six others injured at a Toronto street festival on Saturday night.
Police warned shortly before 8:30 p.m. of an active shooter on St. Clair Avenue West near Arlington Avenue, the annual location of the Salsa on St Clair festival.
Footage posted to social media showed crowds of people running on St Clair, where police quickly descended.
Officers offered few details as the shooting unfolded, calling it an “active” situation.
By 9:30 p.m., police said they had “secured the scene.” They confirmed two people had been pronounced deceased at the scene and that six other people had been found with gunshot wounds.
