Will there be a deal to end the Iran war this time? | Inside Story

Al Jazeera Al Jazeera — 28min

Once again, the US president says a deal to end the Iran war is imminent.

Donald Trump announced that a memorandum of understanding may be signed as early as this weekend in Europe.

It's a shift after threatening more military strikes against Iran just hours earlier.

The conflict had been intensifying for several days, despite the ceasefire.

Trump had threatened to hit Iran 'very hard' and seize its oil.

Tehran has downplayed Trump's announcement.

It says large parts of the deal have been finalised - but no final decision has been made yet.

So, what would make a settlement possible?

And would it hold?
