Though she’s dressed down in a mint-green T-shirt and khaki walking trousers, there’s not a hair out of place as Clare Balding strides towards me across a dried, yellowing field, hand outstretched in greeting.
We are meeting at Sheepdrove Organic Farm in the heart of the North Wessex Downs where the 55-year-old presenter and verified national treasure has been filming all morning.
It’s a hot day, with no breeze and I don’t blame Balding’s small team for encouraging her to take a break and have a glass of water before she sits down to our interview.
