The talks between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump have struck a broadly positive tone so far, with Trump calling his counterpart a “friend,” and the two leaders agreeing to establish a new “constructive, strategic, stable relationship,” according to the Chinese foreign ministry.
Amid all the talk of cooperation and collaboration, however, one statement stood out: a stark warning from Xi about what’s at stake if the US crosses its so-called red line on the sensitive topic of Taiwan.
