Mini-marts, barbers and vape shops linked to illegal activities could be closed down for up to a year under new powers announced by the government.

At the moment, authorities in England and Wales can use closure orders to shut a shop for a maximum of six months.
The change, which will allow investigators more time to gather evidence and pursue prosecutions, has been welcomed by Trading Standards officers.
