President Trump paid tribute to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in the Oval Office on Monday evening.

"He was a friend of all of us — he was a great guy," he told reporters. "He was a great politician actually and it's hard to believe he's gone."

The president said flags will fly at half-staff until Saturday evening to honor the South Carolina Republican, calling it an "extended period of time" that Sen. Graham deserved.

"He got along with almost everybody and when he didn't get along, they knew it — he was tough but he was a good man," he said.

President Trump said he spoke with Sen. Graham about the SAVE America Act shortly before his death on Saturday.

"He was very much in favor of the SAVE America Act, he called me about that," he said. "We were talking about that and some other things."
