Schumer slams Pulte appointment as acting intel chief

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Tuesday criticized President Trump’s decision to name Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte acting director of national intelligence, saying it should “send a shiver down the spine of everyone.”

“At a time of growing threats around the world, Trump’s choice makes one thing clear: he’s not looking for independent intelligence; he’s looking for political validation,” Sen. Schumer told reporters.

Mr. Pulte has used his position atop the housing agency to press for investigations into several of the president’s political adversaries, alleging mortgage fraud by New York Attorney General Letitia James (D), Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA).

“Bill Pulte has proven himself willing to act as a Trump political puppet, filing baseless, outrageous, politically motivated charges on Trump’s behalf — and now Trump wants to put him in charge of intelligence?” Sen. Schumer said.
