Haiti’s government says it has dismissed two state officials following a stampede at a mountaintop fortress that killed 25 people over the weekend.
Seven suspects have already been arrested, including five police officers.
The Ministry of Culture and Communication said Tuesday that it fired a director with Haiti’s Institute for the Preservation of National Heritage, accusing him of “serious negligence.” Also fired was a director with the ministry.
The stampede occurred Saturday at La Citadelle.
It's a historic fortress in northern Haiti that became the site of an event organized by a local DJ who invited young people via social media.
