Hundreds of firefighters are battling a blaze that has torn through hundreds of hectares of the historic Fontainebleau forest near Paris, forcing the evacuation of around 900 homes, farms and wildlife.
Dry, windy conditions have fuelled fears the fire could spread rapidly, prompting road closures and transport disruption.
France has recorded 32,000 hectares burned this year, already surpassing all of 2025, as authorities warn of one of Europe's worst fire seasons, with blazes also reported in Spain, Greece and the UK.
