The families of two girls who were raped in Fordingbridge have said they are “deeply grateful” and “relieved” after the Court of Appeal sentenced their two teenage attackers to four years’ detention.
The 15-year-old boys, known as X and Y, and another aged 14 known as Z, were given non-custodial sentences in May for a combined 10 counts of rape and seven indecent image offences related to the two victims, who were separately attacked in the Hampshire town in November 2024 and January 2025.
The two older boys were involved in both attacks, while the 14-year-old encouraged the rape of the second victim.
The sentences were sent to the Court of Appeal for review on behalf of the Attorney General and in a decision on Thursday, the two 15-year-olds had their sentences changed to four years in detention.
Z’s sentence was not changed.
In a statement after the ruling, the family of one girl said: “We are deeply grateful and relieved by the Court of Appeal judges’ decision to increase the sentence.
“We believe this was the correct decision, and we are thankful that our voices were heard throughout this process.
“While nothing can undo our family’s anguish, this outcome brings a greater sense of justice and accountability.”
