An Amazon employee remains behind bars Tuesday, accused of fatally shooting his co-worker in the parking lot of the Melrose Park facility where they worked.
Authorities were led to Quentin Williams, 20, after a license plate reader snapped a picture of a car registered to Williams leaving the garage immediately after the shooting of Travion Taylor, 27, of Chicago's West Side, court records show.
Williams was charged with first degree murder after turning himself in with his attorney present Saturday, according to court records from the Cook County state's attorney's office.
During a court hearing, a Cook County judge ordered Williams held pending trial.
Minutes after clocking out around 9:10 a.m. Thursday, video surveillance captured Williams and an unnamed employee approach Taylor and another co-worker before a fight ensued in the parking lot of the fulfillment center where they worked in the 1800 block of 5th Avenue, court records show.
It was not clear what the fight was about but as Taylor was attempting to pull one of the unnamed employees off of the other, he saw Williams approach with a gun, officials said.
As Taylor tried to run, Williams allegedly shot him once in the back before fleeing, prosecutors said.
Taylor was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead.
A dark sedan was seen driving from the garage immediately after the shooting and within two minutes a license plate reader captured a sedan matching the vehicle's description, officials said.
The car was later learned to be registered to Williams, according to court records.
Williams' timecards show he punched out minutes before the shooting and three employees positively identified him in video wearing a distinct beige
sweatshirt, walking towards the parking garage and in the parking-garage minutes before the shooting, authorities said.
Prosecutors said three shell casings and Williams' cell phone were recovered at the scene.
Williams' next court date was scheduled for June 22 in Maywood.
