Maggie Gyllenhaal is set to lead the main competition jury for the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
Festival organizers announced the selection Thursday.
Gyllenhaal, who directed “The Bride!” and “The Lost Daughter,” will preside over the jury responsible for awarding prizes, including the Golden Lion.
Last year, Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother” was awarded the top prize by the Alexander Payne-led jury.
The festival director praises Gyllenhaal as an authoritative and independent voice.
Gyllenhaal expressed her excitement to support truthful, singular voices.
The festival runs from Sept. 2 through Sept. 12, with the slate typically announced in late July.
