Voters in Benin are choosing a successor to President Patrice Talon, who is stepping down after a decade in power.
Romuald Wadagni, the finance minister, is seen as Talon’s chosen successor.
He's challenged by Paul Hounkpè, the sole opposition candidate.
Nearly 8 million voters are registered across more than 17,000 polling stations.
Analysts expect Wadagni to win after the opposition failed to secure seats in a January parliamentary election.
Critics accuse Talon of sidelining opponents and cracking down on dissent.
Benin has faced spillover violence in its north from extremist groups in neighboring countries.
