After Statistics Canada reported Canada had entered a technical recession last Friday, a new jobs report revealed some positive news about the economy. 88,000 jobs were created in May, sending the unemployment rate lower.

While many economists had been expecting much weaker jobs growth, Jillian piper walks us through the numbers, and what they mean for Canada’s uncertain economic outlook.

The raw statistics may show that Canada has entered a “technical” recession, but whether economists believe it’s an actual recession is another story.

Today, a Canadian authority on the subject, the C.D. Howe Institute’s Business Cycle Council, weighed-in with its views.

Five NASA astronauts on board the International Space Station were ordered to prepare for an emergency evacuation after an air leak was detected on Friday.

That evacuation order was cancelled two hours later, after NASA said the crack had been fixed.

Only 18 per cent say they would vote for separation if a binding referendum was held in June - 10 points lower than in January.
