A passenger bus has slid off a Himalayan highway in Indian-controlled Kashmir, killing at least 21 people and injuring about 45 others.
Officials say the bus, carrying more than 60 people, hit an auto-rickshaw on a sharp curve and fell about 100 feet onto a road below.
The accident happened Monday.
Residents and authorities rushed to the scene to launch a rescue operation.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow and announced monetary relief for the victims’ families.
India has some of the highest road death rates globally, often due to reckless driving and poorly maintained roads.
