Omar Abdul Singateh of Brampton has been charged with seven different offences in connection with the shooting on July 12th near Polson and Cherry streets in Toronto.
Investigators said there was an exchange of gunfire between two people before the accused, a 25-year-old man from Brampton, allegedly stole a rideshare vehicle with its passenger inside.
However, Global News has learned Singateh was about to be sentenced for his involvement in a separate case in Montreal in which he and two other suspects tied up and tortured a man in his 30s.
Caryn Lieberman has more.
