Wildfires burning across the southeastern U.S. are picking up steam.
They've destroyed nearly 50 homes in southeastern Georgia.
Evacuations were happening in multiple communities near the Georgia coast.
The head of the Georgia Forestry Association says it’s a serious situation.
Officials in southeastern Georgia say 47 homes were lost Tuesday in a fast-moving wildfire in Brantley County.
In Florida, state officials say they are facing one of the worst fire seasons in decades.
Experts say a long drought, low humidity and strong winds are fueling the fires.
The National Weather Service says the high fire risk is expected to continue through Friday.
