Stocks close nearly 1% higher on chip gains ahead of Nvidia earnings release

Seoul stocks closed nearly 1 percent higher Wednesday, boosted by stock repurchases from the country's chip giants and easing external conditions, while investors wait for the earnings release from Nvidia.

The Korean won fell against the US dollar.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index closed up 65.47 points, or 0.97 percent, to 6,808.21.

Trade volume was moderate at 323.3 million shares worth 22.38 trillion won ($16.15 billion).

Winners outnumbered losers 584 to 273.
