Kim Leadbeater expresses her "sadness" over assisted dying bill failing

Labour MP, Kim Leadbeater, who introduced the private members' bill for assisted dying, has expressed her disappointment that time has officially run out for it to pass in the House of Lords.

She said that the current "safeguards are just not sufficient" and people who are unable to get help in Switzerland are taking their own lives.

Leadbeater told Sky News she was "a mixture of really sad, really upset, really disappointed but also a little bit angry that we've got to this point when we have a piece of legislation that democratically elected members of parliament have voted after a significant amount of debate and scrutiny" which will fall.
